We might be moving to Spain. We're definitely buying a place there.
In the summer of 2024, we embarked on a month-long adventure in Spain, and our kids and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Initially, we had set our sights on properties that could serve as both vacation homes and short-term rentals. However, as we delved deeper into our search, we discovered a plethora of properties that met this specific requirement, but none that resonated with us as potential long-term residences.
In our final days in Spain, we made a strategic shift in our search and began exploring flats that could cater to both vacation, rental, and full-time living needs. While we found a few properties that piqued our interest. Most of them were too expensive for our budget or were priced to be sold quickly.
Among the properties we viewed, one stood out as the most appealing and unique. It wasn’t the cheapest, the most expensive, the largest, or the “fanciest,” but it possessed a distinctive feature that set it apart. This property boasted an atico (penthouse in English) with two terraces, one on each end. The realtor that we had engaged told us we could find a property in that neighborhood or we could find properties with a terrace, but there was no way we were finding a property in that neighborhood with the unique double terrace. While we really wanted to move forward with an offer there were simpliy to many uncertanties. We decided to visit Spain again in the summer of 2025 when we would also revisit the idea of moving there and purchasing a property.
Flash forward a half-year later after our visit in to the end of 2024 and we get back in touch with our realtor who shares with us that the previous deal for that unit had fallen through and the builders were prepared to add on a third bedroom on the back terrace.
